AZ Ardennes

Battle of the Budge, December 1944

I appreciate your unit attending our event. If your 16 year old member has a sponsor coming with them then it is O.K. Do you guys have FRS commo in a period shell? Command and Control is key to having a successful event. Your unit commander will be "plugged" into the net at all times. Both for a smooth flow of the scenario and safety as well if you have a real injury where someone needs to be transported out.

Oh, it will be cold. The plus side is that the M3A1 halftrack has the canvas cover. The CCKW should have it's cover by then as well. If not, it will not be a very popular mode of transportation.

Chad

We usually have to hike in, and out of the battle area a mile or two. You talked about "hooking" us up with a halftrack for transportation?

Could you clarify this for us. It would be super cool to have access to a halftrack during the weekend. Our guys have two, 30 cal machine guns, which we could bring and set-up. It would sure be nice to have some transportation during the day help with our heavy weapons - if that is what you were offering

Or if you have gunmounts, we can mount them on the halftrack. If we go, what unit would we go as? If we are motorized Infantry we can carry Musette Bags. 8)

Yea, it's no problem. The M3A1 Halftrack. I've only got one working semi-auto .30. it does have three additional mounts as I'm sure you already know. It's the one in the photo gallery. Driver comes with and it also has the canvas cover so you won't freeze your tails off. Yes, I'm spoiled, I have a father that bought all these fun armored vehicles. There, the truth is out, but we do share and play well with others. I thought you guys were used to running around in halftracks? No one walks to the battlefield at our events, everyone rides in period vehicles.

Oh, The halftrack and the M20 have 2nd Armored Markings. I was in the 2nd Armored when I went to Iraq in 91' so it just stuck with our WWII vehicles as well.

If you guys want to go as 2nd Armored, just remove any patches and you can use musette bags. It's up to the gun owners if they want to bring your MG's. Otherwise with high altitude that we are not used to bring rifles, plenty of water, food for the field, dress warm (long johns, winter combat uniforms, jeep caps, M-1937 wools under them, combat boots, overshoes or shoe pacs). 8)

Hey fellas, this will be a sight for sore feet we won't have to walk in and walk out. This new gig is looking mighty promising and now i can expend more of my efforts into this event. 8)

I think that you guys are more hard core than we are. I can't remember the last time anyone here walked from the barracks to the battlefield. On this event, I would like to get everyone assigned to a vehicle. Let me know if your numbers get over 12 because that will start to be a problem in the track. We will most likely have to assign jeeps to carry any overages. The CCKW will be carrying the Airborne Infantry so that's out. The British/ Commonwealth units will be in the T-16 and jeeps. Oh, there is NO SMOKING in the vehicles!

Chad

We ususally get a lift the from the barracks to a "close-by" parking area. But from there we hike in AND out.

There is a new updated map on the website which has more detail with the latest roads. You should be able to zoom in to the point of making out individual trees on this map. The German units start from behind the red border on the Southwest region of the map. Allied units start behind the green border but only allied UN-ARMORED elements can defend objectives #2-4. Allied units can send patrols out to Objective #1 at the start of the scenario. This part of the scenario is designed to recreate the early stages of the Offensive where the 106th Inf. Division was overwhelmed. You might start out at one of these locations with little armored support. Understand that the allied infantry units in these areas will be grossly outnumbered by the Germans. It is not scripted, but by stacking the deck against you it should recreate the situation ( at least that's the plan, so don't get too upset when you get hammered at this point ) Then you jump in the back of the CCKW, they take you up the hill to your armor and you become armored infantry and deploy from the halftrack. It just doesn't make sense to have the airborne or British/ Commonwealth units at these locations. Oh, There is another leg infantry unit that will be joining you for this early mission.

I think if you do armor infantry you can sorta do what you like.
The only guys with all the cool stuff would be the original members.
Any new replacements would have what they were issued at the POEs and the replacement camps.
In other words having guys with haversacks and overcoats and M41s would not be wrong they would be either replacements, or that is what they picked up during clothing exchange.
I don't know if the Army attempted to replace the tanker jackets with the M43 uniform.

Damn, all my time I have been Mech, and I miss going to a Mech event-
Insalah.
