ok for all doing para i got this from Patrick

For the night drop, we gear up and they load us into duece and a halfs, then drive us around long enough that we do not know exactly where we are. Every so often the truck will stop, and they will tell a guy or two to jump out. The unit is given intel as to where we are to rally, and it is the small groups that make their way to that point. I would not worry about that too much, they will not make you jump out alone, and will probably put you with one of the more experienced guys in the unit. Last time, my partner and I were dropped by the river, and spent about 40 minutes gathering with others until we had a nice little band. I ended up with the CO, medic and 1st Sgt before we moved on our objective (an MG pit).

As for the lost weapons, we did not do that then. Likely they will set up bundles with weapons and marke them well. If the krauts get to them first, they will secure them and not root through them. If the GI's get to them, we can use them. They may not even do this at all - we will have to wait and see.

It really is a blast. When we jump, our musettes are in true jump position (hanging down our front), and immediately after jump the first thing we do is secure ourselves and try to see if there is anything around us.

We will have pre-dawn objectives, and this will be a cool event.

So how will they handle jeeps? Obviously a jeep owner isn't going to want to let somebody else drive his jeep.

I would imagine that you could drive out and stash your jeep before the jump. Then in the morning, we can find it near a destroyed glider. 8)

Ok Outstanding News:

I WILL NOT be going to the Idaho Det. I'm staying behind. Only two guys from my shop are going and one guy said screw it he'll go and he said he knows that I was kinda counting on this event. SO Holcomb is a for sure.

But this one will provide some trouble. I have a few options:

A. I get out of work at normal time on Friday and drive up. Its going to cost me in gas and such, and I *will* be alone. Pending when I get out of work my ETA at Roberts will probably be anywhere from 9PM-12AM or later even. This is easy in the way that I won't have to sneak out of work like my other options. I'm sure if I put paperwork in they may or may not let me go though. Which leads to:

B. I duck out of work about 10AM-12PM Friday and only lag behind you guys about 5 hours. I'd probably get there before 9PM. But its risky. Most of the shop will be there but I'm the guy in charge. The shop CAN run without me easily but me going away may or may not be noticed. I dunno if they can cover for me.

C. I either put in the paperwork and get the Friday off and there won't be any problems. But it'll be in the air if they'll approve it and let me go. With me being the only CDI for my shop back on Rear Det, probably not, and it'll put my interests to the command which if they say no and I go with A or B I could be in trouble (400 miles is about 200 miles past a standard weekend libo limit).

I want to put the paperwork in but it'll most likely get denied. Leaving me with A and B. I want to do B but I'll still need a cover story from the guys, lot more minimal risk then skipping the whole day. But still... A can be done and as long as I don't breakdown or encounter any troubles on the way up or down I'm fine.

BTW, if Alex doesn't come, we need a .50 gunner who has some idea how to operate a gas gun.

I could easily do one. Anyone know which it should be? I think it was the club, but what about the tick mark?

It is the club... Tick mark can be to the 3, 6, or 9 o'clock positions to represent the line battalions. We could ask but something tells me those guys don't worry too much about GLider inf.

His name is Tom Steiner. He is an active-duty Master Sergeant (like I was a couple years ago). He works with me. If Josh's service shoes are too big for him, he will need a size 10 if anyone can assist with that. Thanks...
