Your basic entry level impression requires the use of leggins, accordingly you'll need either Garrision or Roughouts. Later you can get and use buckled boots in later war events, which will allow you not having to wear leggins.
WPG - What Price Glory
WWII - World War II Impressions
ATF - At the Front
................ - GARRISON SHOES -......................- ROUGHOUTS -...........
WWII Impressions are the best and sized like normal sizes. ATF are good but run a half size big and only come in full sizes. WPG is good but are all EE width. The Garrison shoe is good for the whole war and stateside. The roughouts were for overseas use only. In my opinion Roughouts are the most comfortable and lighest in weight.
For boots, go with wwii impressions all the way. it's a bit more expensive but it is totally worth it.
Roughouts would be best. They seem to be the most prevalent ones seen in period combat pictures, as opposed to the garrison shoes. You can pick up a pair of brown oxfords pretty cheap for garrison wear, as a nice private purchase shoe to wair with a Class A.
