Removing Rust Stains from webgear

I've gotten and I'm sure others have as well seen rust stains on packs and gear the they have purchase on ebay. Rather than, just live with it I looked into "rust removal" tricks.

Here is one I'm going to try..
Put salt on the stain, and then soak it with lemon juice some suggest usint white vinger. The Lemon Juice will draw out the stain into the salt. You can also just soak the stain in lemon juice and let the sun and lemon juice bleach the stain out. There are other methods such as using Naval Jelly. I would suggest reading remedies listed on the internet, most mention the use of lemon juice, some say let it dry in the sun, other say not to. It all depends on what fabric you're dealing with. Accordingly it always good to test the solution on a neutral area.

I use "spray and wash" and a tooth brush. Then I wash the item in cold water on the gentle cycle with very little soap, and line dry.
When all else fails, Attack!

Will that work on clothing? I have an original pair of khaki pants that has a rust stain on it.

The most I found is the same Dave has. Most say to use an actual lemon not lemon juice. And of course they say different things like put the salt on then squeeze the lemon or vice versa or do this and that and the other, some say to let it dry and others say not to.

I have idea I'm going to try tonight but sadly its one that will not be able to be done by the rest of you. I'll see how it turns out.

Haven't had the chance to get some lemons and try it out yet. Though I did get a Dremel and and a soft wire wheel brush to get the rust. Sprayed it all down with AMLGUARD to free up the stuck areas and to give them a protective coating... Sorry chaps, can't get that stuff anywhere.

Okay well machinewashing was a bad idea...

It didn't get rid of any of the rust... and tore the front flap up :(

Repairable but it will look horrid. Maybe I'll come across a bag with a big rip/tear in the bag and I can steal the flap from it.

I've been also recomended:

1. CLR- make sure it doesn't destroy the color.
2. Baking Soda&Vinegar+ a Toothbrush.
3. Peroxide (though was warned this has a good chance of destroying color)

I might try those eventually but I'm going to do a supply style repair with a replacement piece of webbing, I just need to find the right webbing and borrow some of that awesome thread from Mike :D
