Camp Pendleton Stress Seminar

Postby kanowarrior on Wed Jan 23, 2008 12:15 pm

May 3rd, 4th and 5th.

I didn't go to this event last year because of scheduling conflicts with other events. This year so far it's clear although the CHG has not yet set a date for the May battle.

I would like to take the unit to this one. It's a living history event like Marching Thru History or Old Fort MacArthur Days. It just started a year or two ago so it's a new event but it's growing. They are thinking about doing a public battle this year as well.

Other than the fact it's so close to where I live I think an event like this on Camp Pendleton has major recruiting potential.

So... what's the general consensus? Yea or Nay?

I believe it is. I was contacted by the coordinator a couple years ago and I've never heard it referred to as anything else. I never quite understood the concept of this event but as I currently understand it this is an event put on by MWR for the benefit of returning veterans to help unwind from combat stress. Something of a show to take the families to.

They made it sound so much more complicated. It took a long time for somebody to give me the 'simplified' explanation.

Something like, "M1A1 Utensil, Multi Tang Utility" when they could have just called it a fork.

Jerry invited mer out last year but it conflicted w/ Stoddard...

Might make those grunts jealous to see a pogue Marine out there.... though I May go with Jerry (if he does Marine again) as a 4th MARDIV on this one... obvious reasons... 8) or maybe to show that most of us do Marines as alternates... and still hang with the 34th...

Crap I'd like to go but I'll be at Pendleton for Corporal's Course... And thats a TAD thing, I'll be bringing my uniforms and basic necessities... maybe if we can drive I might come down to SD to pick up my gear... but I don't think we get weekends off for this course...

Bad news. Got my CHG flyer a couple days ago and they scheduled the May battle during the same weekend. That kinda throws that out for me since I had promised to attend that battle.

However, that is the 1941 Greece battle so no Americans. If you don't have a German or British impression the Stress Seminar is still a good alternative.

Damn, just found out I have weekends off during Corporal's Course... Is Jerry Berry still doing it? I guess I could get in touch with him. The only problem is that I hope I have a vehicle then, I think they put us through inspections and for that we bring a required set of uniforms and a few extra things for the classes and living and maybe a few personal items, but I think an M1 Helmet, 782 gear, uniform, and boondockers are a bit much. If I can hitch or drive myself to San Diego I can probably show up for this...

Yes, Jerry Berry is still planning on going. Anyone from our unit who wishes to go can fall in with his 4th Marines unit. That includes US Army and Imperial Japanese impressions. Call Jerry at 562-715-1400.
