November 29-30: Costa Mesa Gunshow

Postby davep on Wed Aug 27, 2008 5:24 pm

The 12th SS is spearheading a big, I mean big two-day recruiting promotion at the November Costa Mesa Gunshow. Steve with the 12thSS (same guy who is promoting the West Coast Regional at Camp Roberts) has already gotten permission to bring a one of his German Halftracks. Here is what Steve writes . . . .

I have permission from the Costa Mesa gun show promoters to stage a major CHG recruiting effort at the November 29-30 2008 show. We have permission to put a couple of armored vehicles on display. I will be proposing to the board that we get an American M3 half track and one of my Sd.Kfz.251 German half tracks out there along with a couple soft skinned vehicles and a few tables displaying the usual stuff. We will attract a huge amount of attention and traffic. The battle flyers along with some battle video would both educate the public as to what we do and maybe get us a few good recruits.

We still need to get board approval and commitment from various units. It will take some commitment and hard work to properly man the booth all weekend given the kind of interest that display would generate.

The promoters say that the Nov. show is the most attended of the year.

This would be easy for me to set up a display for our unit. It's easy driving distance from my house to the show for Jean.

This is going to get a lot of attention now, that the Camp Roberts Battle is over. Steve Fredrick(12thSS) is going to be setting up a "time-slot sign up sheet" of sorts; so we should start thinking about what day(s) and time(s) we would all like to generally cover.

The event is 9:00 to 5:00 Sat and 9:00 to 4:00 on Sunday

Ooops sorry Taisho... btw... Those of us that can should try and kick a late war impression... try and sell the Tahquitz event to other CHGers... I'm hearing mixed bag about how many will show up :P

Im sure if a lot of us show up we'll have early/late 34th and 442 getups.

Yes, I'll be there and I plan on bringing Jean Francis as well. Probably a bazooka and mortar for display.

I spoke to the event coordinator, Steve yesterday. He is specific in saying he only wants one jeep there not two so I guess we will only have Jean Francis there. I plan on bringing a bazooka, mortar and a couple small arms for display. I'll put up a small table to display a couple items. Jean Francis will have her war paint on and the .50 and .30 will be mounted on her like last time.

We have to man this display all weekend so I would especially appreciate if more than one person show up so we can take breaks. I will also try to remember to bring the regimental flag and the picture book I've assembled of battles and various events and a display of my father's personal effects.

Steve is looking for guys to cover the two days, which means we as individuals or as a unit can cover specific hours during the two days. With Jean being there, we will need to cover the full two days without any help. So What we need to know is who will out there "when".
