Old Fort Mac Days may be coming to an end

Postby davep on Fri Nov 30, 2007 2:19 am

Problems over land use may close the Old Fort Mac Days Living History event. Some care and some don't care.

Well to be perfectly honest when we did the Sendai encampment there the reenactors seem to love the event but as far as a recruiting tool that event was pretty much a bust. We didn't get anything other than one guy who wandered into our encampment offering to sell us an Arisaka.

Weekend of Heroes was our best show all year. We pulled a few new members from that show and got some good contacts.

Yes, but it was primarily the City Council. They don't want any axis forces there if they can help it and they would like nothing better than to shut Fort Mac down and develop the area. The Dog Park plan is a baby step to doing just that. If they get it then Old Fort MacArthur Days would be hard pressed to continue and that is a big part of the Fort's funding that continues to help keep them in operation.

The Sendai is planning on attending in 2008 as long as the show continues. I've already emailed a complaint to the City Council member over the Dog Park plan.

Some appear to have an "Angry Agenda" :x which is common in reenacting.
At least it is a response, though I think the CHG Board should contact the membership to give support to the site.

Something to bring up at the annual meeting since the CHG appears to want to keep the Board behind "The Curtain" as to having the CHG sponsor sites like Fort Mac.

The comment that Ft Mac should just blow off their Bosses and let the Nazis in any way-Hi Moron [smilie=a_withstupid.gif]
let me lose my job so you can play army for the weekend.

But then in "The Book" about reenactors didn't the writer state that reenactors hate attending public events?

I dunno. I didn't read the book. Yeah, it would be awful to lose a nice site for living History because some guys didn't see eye to eye with the talking heads.
