Greg Templeton has always expressed an interest in being a Combat photographer.

just bought an old Twin lens reflex on ebay....my friend has a better and more period correct one that i am trying to persuade him to sell me....

some of these cameras are pretty cheap on ebay, but they get you on the film...most twin lens cameras use 120 film, which is still in production but can be upwards of $7 per roll.

still...beats the hell out of 4x5 format (which would be what the majority of US Combat Cameramen used), thats around 10 bucks per exposure, thats not counting processing and printing...

I think you have two issues, one the "look" and two the "function". And just like our radios, they have the period correct look, but use and have the modern function.

I think eventually someone doing a Combat Photographer -or- Combat Cameraman(movies) should have something on the lines of what we use for the radios. Accordingly we need some way of hiding a digital camera or video camera inside a period correct one.

Because even if you can afford the camera the cost of producing pictures, film and movies is just cost prohibitive.

Brehm, I totally think you would have a blast doing that as another impression. You would be the perfect candidate! :D

Hey thanks guys, I would definitely do that impression if I had the right gear and all. I actually have a camera that i think is Period, but no film for it. that's the big thing is getting film for the old things. if I could get that, I would definitely do a combat camera impression.

Well, I think that would be "your" impression. I will do some research for ya on it.

Maybe we can make a fake camera out of wood and paint it. Inside the camera we could conceal and anchor a digital camera so you can shoot video or stills with it without using the expensive film.

Yeah that is a good idea. Then you can use the footage as stock for other film projects you have. You know, you will have footage of guys running around shooting, and just use it wherever it would fit in in a film. I do it all the time, and it really seems to help.

I did that with my Camp Robert footage for the April Battle.
