Finally a quote on DI's!

Postby kanowarrior on Tue Jan 29, 2008 5:17 pm

Finally success! I got a quote today for 442nd reproduction DI's. If the quote is accurate I can sell them to our group for about $13-15 a pair. I might try to eBay them at $20 a pair. I have to order 100 of them though and that will cost me something like $650.

Anyone need DI's? You have to have at least two for you Class A's. Three if you wear one on your cap.

Now that I've finally got a quote on the 442nd DI's I broached the subject of the 133rd DI's. She needs a good picture of one to start with. I have one but it's a very small thumbnail graphic and doesn't print out well. Can somebody email a decent size picture of one that be printed out on a letter size sheet of paper? kanowarrior@yahoo.com

I'm assuming it will cost the same, but I cannot finance this project as I will be paying for the full brunt of the 442nd DI's. If somebody would finance the 133rd DI's we will be set. Once I can send the picture of the 133rd DI she can make sure the quote will be the same or close.

Mininum order on these is 100. It gets cheaper if you order 200 or 300 of course and only way to cut the cost down more is if you can provide artwork that is acceptible for them. The prices I quoted here is if they do the artwork. The assumption is it will take a couple hours @ $50 an hour.

Tim:
I would be willing to put up 1/3 of the funds for the 133rd D.I. I will ask others for their donations. I'm sure Dave P and I can motivate others. I believe he has a 133rd pin that is very nice.

133rd Crest vs. the Pin

The pin has a grove along the bottom, just above the AVAUNCEZ. A picture is a good start but some photographs of a pin are also important.

Here is a clean shot of the graphic. If you look closely you will see light colored "gray lines" which is were the grove is in the pin, which is clearly seen in the actual pin. Also obviously on the pin those "sharp" ends are rounded off

Here is a website that sell all sorts of crested items, I found a 133rd T-Shirt and also a coffee mug

Just one good picture that can be printed out to the borders of a 8x11 paper is all I need right now. Once they know what they are dealing with I will need a sample to show them. They draw up line art and then create molds to make them from that.

It's a process much like anything else that is produced. But we need funding and a picture to start. The 442nd DI's are going to happen. I had the samples, pictures and am paying the cost. The 133rd DI will be faster because I broke the ground work with getting the 442nd ones done.

However, the 133rd DI's so far only have enough funding promised for 1/3rd of the cost. I need someone or someone's to come up with the funding of the other 2/3rds of the cost and I will need a sample although I should be able to get that very easily from Mayo.

So it's time to step up to the plate. Simply... we need money to make it happen. Obviously refundable once product is delivered and people start to pay for them, but up front money to make it happen. I cannot fund everything nor would I expect any one person to do so.

Tim

Was the graphic I send you good enough?

Also you mentioned with good artwork they would lower the price. What are we looking at for the 133rd pins?

If the quote is accurate I can sell them to our group for about $13-15 a pair. I might try to eBay them at $20 a pair.

I take that those prices are $13-$15 a piece, i.e. for one. A "pair" maybe thought of being "two"

PS-Here is a great site for Regimental Pins, to bad we didn't know about it when we were in the 9thID. What is funny I found it as one of the advertising links at the top of our forum. They carry lots and lots of "crest pins"

The kind of artwork they want is a line drawing. Pictures are only to give them an idea of what we want so they can provide a quote.

The $13-15 price is what I'm hoping I can sell the 442nd DIs to our unit and it would be for two or a pair. The $20 price is what I would try to sell a pair of them on eBay to people outside our unit. There is a demand for 442nd DI's.

442nd DI update

Postby kanowarrior on Tue Feb 26, 2008 5:32 pm

Ok, I got to see the artwork today. Not perfect, but pretty good. We made a couple alterations and it's getting resubmitted as we speak.

Still aways away before I have samples in my hands to show anyone, but it's coming!

Randy, Tim is working on the 442nd pin, I think he maybe referring to that pin and not the 133rd. The 133rd pin is another project in and of itself

Sorry about that Randy. Dave is right. I'm currently working on the 442nd pin. We decided to wait on the 133rd pin till after the 442nd one is done partly because of funding (I can't afford to finance both) and partly to see how it turns out.

Good news is it looks like the 442nd one will come out really well. I will keep everyone posted on the progress.
