2 Jeeps

Postby osok1953 on Fri May 09, 2008 7:20 am

Update,
Russ and Tom's Jeep will be heading to my home sometime the end of this month or early June. I will be posting a duty roster for those that are still interested in learning the basics of working on a WW2 Jeep. I have been studying manuals , including a CD that Tim Kano supplied to me for detailed instructions on various models. I recommend that a pair of WW2 coveralls be purchased so you can wear them as if we were period correct for the maintainance of the Jeep's. If you cannot find some coveralls then just wear your HBT's so you do not trash your civies. That is all! 8)

Fernie

Can you tell us how much work and the type of work that has to be done on the two jeeps? Is it all engine or under the hood work, or is there other work, i.e. body work and painting?

Both jeeps need painting and mechanical work.

Russ's jeep is restored but has been in storage for some 12 years. Need brake work, fuel lines installed and the other maintenance things that need to be done to get a vehicle back in working order after long term storage ranging from fluids and hoses rechecked, etc.

Tom's jeep needs more mechanical work, the body needs to be stripped and repainted, some cosmetic restoration is required. New tires and rims. Again this one was stored for some time, but not garaged as Russ's jeep was. It needs to be cleaned out.

Good thing is both jeeps have sound bodies with little or no rot. Nothing was cut so there won't be any major restoration involved.

My first concern is the brakes and then concentrate on getting the motor in good running order. The carbs on both Jeep's need rebuilding and the fuel pumps also need rebuilding. Both need new batteries and Tom's Jeep needs a new fuel tank but we can use a gas can for a fuel reservoir. Russ's Jeep does not need too much painting if any at all so we need some people to sand and mask off Tom's Jeep and get it ready for an "Earl Schibe" paint job.

Fern if I can get up there some how I can furnish 2-3 sets of modern coveralls :D Size 48Longs (we were them extremely baggy)

No need to spend a lot of money on HBT ones for "yard" work.
