30 Cal Pedestal Mount - Support Bars

Postby davep on Tue Jul 22, 2008 10:03 pm

Fernie and Tim are looking for the "support bars" for the pedestal mount they already have. If you searchin the internet, they are also called "brace bars" or "brace supports"

This site, gives you an idea of what the support bars look like

This is a close up of the "support bar" and how it is attached.

I've already talked to BMG, Sarco and a couple other MG parts sites and none of them carried just the braces. You have to buy the pedestal to get them.

If we can't find any, Fernie has a friend who can make and attach a substitute.

The replacement support bars will be fabricated from 1" tubing which will not have the same look as the original stuff. :(

Did it occur to anyone that a lot of units had shortages of time/equipment and raw materials and chances are they had to fabricate these things or even reinforce standard ones and whatnot. I'm sorry if it seems so wrong. But one thing reenactors always seem to forget is that they need to *think* like soldiers and soldiers are *very* resourceful in a pinch.

That would be cool but probably $$$ for a custom job, especially since these dudes do almost exclusively DoD contract work:

Eilers Machine and Welding, Inc. supplies a wide variety of fabricated metal parts to the U.S. Government or to commercial customers who are partners in the Government supply chain. Nearly 96% of our business comes from Department of Defense related contracts and includes a wide assortment of new and replacement parts for land, sea and air military applications. In 2006 our company was awarded and completed 740 projects for the government, and earned over $8.8 million in gross revenue with seventy employees. The company has a proven track record in servicing a broad range of machining, fabrication and welding needs and ensures total compliance with customer specifications and tolerances.
