Okay I put the 34 in there for the 34th ID just to represent it. BUT technically the 442 was attached and under the command of an Army, not a Corps or Division. Thats pretty cool, because that means that they only have to respond directly to the Commanding General and Staff of an entire Army (3-5 Divisions+ supporting units).

Now:

We can keep it the way things are and do it 34th to "Represent"
OR
We can do them up as what Army they were under command of in Italy (which I don;t knwo off hand)
Or in France (which is the 3rd Army I believe)

So what says ya'll?

The 442nd was part of the 5th Army. During the time they wore the 34th patch the unit was attached to the 34th so took orders directly from the divisional commander if I'm not mistaken.

On orders from the Army CG though. Its not an exclusive thing. Its just more of the Army CG's discretion as to where to commit the 442 in this case the 34th. I'm all for putting 34 on there, I just don't want to have die hards coming up and trying to correct us.

I wouldn't worry to much. The regulations changed so much thru the war that unless your time frame specific it's hard to nitpick on markings. Anyone that tries would most likely be wrong in the first place. Wait till you see the hardcopies of the regulations I made for you. They are waiting at Mayo's house. We only sent you a couple pages. There are several pages of it.

I downloaded the entire AR-850-5 with its changes... Ironically it also includes the regs on marking personal and organizational gear. Kinda cool. Good, I'm all about the 34 then. Advertise everything in our unit.
