Shelter Half Set, Complete $11.97 These look good

Postby Mayo on Sun Jan 06, 2008 10:37 am

Tim found these and is going to buy one to check them out.

"Original and complete Dutch shelter system includes two halves of a shelter, complete with six pole segments, eight stakes, and two ropes. Constructed of heavy military canvas with "overlapping button" closures to keep the weather out, designed similar to U.S. shelter system that sleeps two adults with vestibule ends for gear, used in good condition."
$11.97

I ordered a set this morning. With shipping it cost me just under $25. Supposedly shipping is 2-3 days so I ought to know by the end of the week what they are like.

Today the shelter halves arrived!

I can't spread them out at work but at first glance these look awesome. Unfortunately they are not a nice khaki color like the French ones were but they are double ended with button flaps. They canvas is the same shade (or very close to) the late war style shelter halves. They come with late war section style tent poles and the biggest surprise was the pegs. Exact WWII spec pegs only they are painted OD.

For anyone who is picky you can improve them by stamping a "US" on the side if you have the capability. And if you do LMK I would like to do that with these and my French ones.

I say these are good to go, order away! You can't beat the price for a complete tent! You only need half of this to put together a haversack but you can't sleep in a half of tent. And this set is only about half the cost of just one original/repro shelter half if you can find them, not to mention the poles, pegs and rope are thrown in with the deal!

shouldnt be too hard, find a stencil of the original and do a little airbrush/heatgun combo with permanent dye

Don't feel bad, pegs break all the time. Having extra pegs is a good thing!
