Safety Warning - Blue Dot Powder

Postby AtlanWallBlanks on Tue Aug 05, 2008 6:54 am

For those of you who roll your own.

On July 25 Alliant (AKT) has released a safety notice for their Blue Dot gun powder.

While the notice does not mention blanks, the burn rate of the powder has changed slightly (faster) and can be unsafe in some live ammunitions and cause overpressure problems with blanks in gas operated weapons.

In speaking with an AKT representative they stated that if the powder is used in a blank application it would be very wise to reduce the powder charge by 10% and work your way back up the same as working on max. loads for live ammunition.

There is nothing wrong with the powder, this is simply the effect of manufacturing processes changing along with raw materials changing over a long period of time.

If you use this powder, please take note and be careful.
