Warhammer - WW2

Warhammer is real big in England, and is moving over to America. It's a hobby that involves gameplay on a flat board, with each player have several squads. Move and battleplay is determine by throwing dices. The player use plastic or metal soliders, that he paints or buy painted sets. It is done mainly with futuristic, terminator, lord of the rings, and star wars characters. But there is also a World War II version.

All the movements are related to in terms of inches. How far you can move, how far your weapons can travel/hit. There is the use of cover. Also factors for effectiveness as to your soliders and their weapons. There are charts and tables which go to establish the rules of the conflict depend on what people have set-up on the board.

I uncovered this at store in the mall that was filled with the pieces, buildings and cover. This store had eight tables all having gamers.

There is also something very similar called Allied & Axis (you've probably seen this advertised in WWII magazine). But Warhammer WW2 uses a larger board, and player change the look and feel, by using and setting up buldings, tree, and even rivers.

The rules and Army LIsts can be found here:

But alas the main rules are dead but the Army lists are fun to look at.

Another Big Wargame

I used to be big into Take Cover! by Britannia Miniatures (http://www.britanniainkerman.com/brit/frontpage/siteintroindex.htm)

Sadly the rules are out of print but the company still does their 20mm (1/72) models which are very excellent for white metal models.

But now the big WW2 miniature gaming firestorm seems to be flames of war.

I haven't picked up the rules at all but the rulebook and sourcebooks seem to cover the span of the whole war and they are in 15mm (1/100) scale.

Just for fun this is a US RIfle Company in model form:

I may start getting into this as Warhammer 40k is just getting a bit too pricey for my blood. Their current big shtick seems to be the 21st Panzer in Normandy as they are expanding into a vast amount of German captured vehicles. The 21st in Normandie had vast amounts of captured French and smaller numbers of other nations' equipment and AFVs to confront the Allies with.
