Unit Yearbook

Postby M14MSgt on Wed May 14, 2008 4:24 pm

What do you guys think about a yearbook of our unit? I have mine from when I graduated Boot Camp. I say "yearbook" because it resembles one in format and design. A compilation of photos from past battles as well as other projects, i.e. restoring the jeep, LH events, etc.

A cruise book of sorts? That sounds awesome.

If you guys want, I can bring my Boot Camp one so you can see how it is laid out. I can check with the company that does the ones for my son's college to see how it would work.

The issue with any printed, is minimums. With only 24 guys in our unit, we may not have enough.
Here is a place that does in online - it gives you an example

I have three paperback books that my dad brought back with him from the war. Two were unit histories. One for the 92nd Division, one for the 442nd and the other was for his training class at Camp Roberts prior to and during the start of the war. These books have been commonplace with the military for who knows how long. At least since before WWII. Probably back before WWI.

I'm sure we can come up with some kind of format that only would be good for our guys but perhaps something we could sell as a promotional thing during shows like Chino. It could show stuff we do like the jeeps, things we pick up like the BAR or the semi auto .30's. Events we attend. Any number of things that John Q Public might purchase a book for at a nominal fee to check out our unit and the club. And we could format the whole thing with a WWII type of look.

I think it's an idea full of merit.

Oh, also one of the guys in my Sendai unit, Rick Wasson works for a printer service and has offered in the past for the Russian unit to print materials for them. We might get something at little or no cost if we work thru them. I've been helping Rick and Amber get the new German field hospital unit accepted so I can draw on 'favors'. Worth checking out if we can put together some kind of draft for him to see.
